Thomas E. Luby
August 28, 1941 – August 7, 2019
Thomas E. Luby passed peacefully surrounded by his family on August 7th. Tom was born to Roger E and Marie (Theros) Luby on August 28, 1941. He grew up in Omaha and married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Jo McGowan, on August 15, 1964 and continued to live in Omaha where they raised their family.
Tom attended Holy Name Grade & High School. Although mischievous, he always respected and later “took care of his girls”—the Servants of Mary nuns that were his teachers. He later attended Omaha University on a football scholarship.
He played semi-pro football for the Omaha Mustangs and was a highly respected salesman for every company he worked for and every customer he did business with. He was an avid golfer and member of the Omaha Field Club.
Tom never met a friend he didn’t keep. Over the years he amassed so many friends and acquaintances from every part of Omaha, walk of life, and surrounding area that it was next to impossible to go anywhere and not hear people ask when hearing our last name, “Oh do you know Tom Luby?”
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Elaine.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; daughter, Christine Luby Brown; sons, Steven and Jeffrey (Faith) Luby; grandchildren: Rayann and Wesley Brown, Seth, Samuel, Sophia, Aiden, James, Mary and Jude Luby, and Julia and Thomas Luby; sisters: Delores (Ken) Miller, Patricia Pawol, and Connie Luby; and many beloved nieces, nephews, loving extended family and friends.
The Family will receive friends on Monday, August 12th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Tuesday, August 13th at 10am, Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 S. 86th St. Interment, Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Holy Name School, Christ the King Education Trust, or charity of your choice.
