Thomas E. Urban

Thomas E. Urban

October 22, 1939 – November 25, 2023

Thomas Edward Urban was born on October 22, 1939, in Omaha, Nebraska to Frank and Margaret Urban. As a kid, he loved trains and collecting them. He attended Cathedral High School, graduating in 1958. Around this time, he transitioned from trains to his love of cars. He worked as an electrician’s apprentice at Union Pacific Railroad, which would become his life-long profession.

In 1960, he met Mary Ann at a party, and they were married on a cold Nebraska winter day in January of 1962. It wasn’t long before they were ready to start a family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; their four sons: Tom (Patty), Jerry, Jim, and Tony (Sheila); and one daughter, Molly Checksfield (Kevin); sister, Pat Parrott.

He was a loving husband, who recently celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage. Being a supportive father, he never missed his kids’ sporting events. As an avid camper, he traveled all over the country with the family in tow. He began trap shooting and hunting at a young age with his father and shared his love of it with his children for many years. He was also a jovial grandfather and sideline supporter to his eight grandchildren: Susan, Elizabeth, Nick, Caitlin, Sage, Sean, Addie, and Joe. In addition to the numerous family sporting events over the years, he never missed a Nebraska football game. As a passionate and boisterous Nebraska football fan, his support could be heard throughout the neighborhood.

He was a kindhearted soul who loved to laugh and always had a smile to offer and a clock to wind. He will be sorely missed and cherished in the hearts of his family and many friends for an eternity.

VISITATION begins Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10am, with a MEMORIAL Mass at 11am, all at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 11802 Pacific St.

Sorry for your loss, Many blessings to you and your family. An Irish blessing “May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow. May the soft winds freshen your spirit. May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you. And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.” Take care. GTL employee and friend of Patty.
