Thomas Henry Riha
February 18, 1950 – December 27, 2022
Age 72
Tom grew up on the family farm in South Omaha. He graduated from Bryan High School in 1968 and then joined SteamFitters Local 464 as an apprentice, where he worked until he retired in 2012. He was actively involved in the union and served on their finance and examining boards. In 2021, Tom proudly received his pin for 50 years of Union service.
Tom loved to be outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His two favorite sayings were “If it flies, it dies” or shouting “Fish on!” as he set the hook. Over the years, he enjoyed playing in local horseshoe, dart, volleyball, and cribbage leagues. Tom cherished the relationships he had, and the time he spent with his union brothers, hunting buddies, and teammates.
Tom was a huge Husker fan and never missed listening to or watching a game on TV (even if there was a wedding that day). He always enjoyed being around his family, whether it was watching Nebraska games, playing poker with his brothers, hanging out with nieces and nephews, weekends at Lake Riha, or large family gatherings for this favorite holiday, the 4th of July.
Preceded in death by parents Louis P. and Mary Riha; sister Shirley Riha; brothers Billy, Theodore, and Louis G. Riha; brother-in-law Bob Moore; and sister-in-law Linda Broders-Guyett.
Survived by wife of 28 years, Jan; daughter Amy R. Riha; son T. J. Riha (Kim); granddaughters Jenna and Krista; brothers: Frank (Kathleen) Riha, Vic (Bev) Riha, Vince (Jo Ellen) Riha; sisters: Mary Ann Moore, Lil (Bill) Cabiness, Julie (Ed) Diehm, Ev Hans, Virginia (Mike) Baye, and Barb (Russ) Widhalm; brothers-in-law: Ed Broders (Mary), Lee Broders, and John Guyett; sisters-in-law, Jan and Shirley Riha; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
