Thomas J. Walsh

WALSH, Thomas J., Aug 6, 1927 – Oct 6, 2011. Omaha, age 84; died peacefully at home Thursday, Oct 6, 2011. A cancer survivor, he eventually succumbed to general debility. He was the son of John Richard Walsh and Mary Philomena Wokersien Walsh, but was raised in Ulysses, NE, by his Aunt Mary and Uncle Tom McNally. After graduating from Creighton University School of Law in 1951, he practiced law in Omaha and across Nebraska for forty years. He specialized in a defensive trial practice and was admitted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1982. He served in the House of Delegates of the Nebraska State Bar where he helped devise a funding process for delivery of legal services to low-income people in Nebraska. A staunch supporter of women’s rights, he served as president of Planned Parenthood of Omaha/Council Bluffs. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia, and his seven children: Ellen Walsh High (Michael), Thomas J. Walsh, Jr. (Nancy), Jean Walsh (Tom Van Houten), Daniel Walsh (Amy), James A. Walsh, Patrick “Tito” Walsh (Erin Dessain), and William Walsh. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct 14, 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel. MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, Oct 15, 10am at the West Center Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Omaha Public Library Foundation or to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.
