Thomas Patrick Furey

FUREY, Thomas Patrick Aug 28, 1926 – Nov 16, 2012 Thomas Patrick Furey, 86, of Omaha, NE, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Lakeside Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 28, 1926 at home in Florence, NE, to Thomas Patrick and Helen Furey, Sr. He attended Technical High of Omaha and the University of Nebraska Omaha. During 1944-1946, he served in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he married his wife of 63 years, Alice (Hawkes). Tom was civic and community minded. He was considered the “unofficial Mayor of Florence” and personally oversaw the betterment of the Florence area. Tom served as President of the North Omaha Commercial Club, North Omaha Chapter of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and served on the Permits and Inspection Board for the City of Omaha. He was awarded the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce’s Golden Spike Award and the Admiralship of the Nebraska Navy by Governor Ben Nelson. Tom also served as a member of the St. Philip Neri Parish Council in Omaha, NE. Tom founded Furey Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. located in Florence, NE for 45 years. He was a member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association and served as local chapter President and then on the national board. He loved travel, golf, and tennis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Patrick and Helen Furey, Sr.; brothers, Richard and John. He is survived by his wife, Alice; children, Lorraine (Furey) Kolasinski (Charles) and Patricia (Furey) Lane (Jon); grandchildren: Sarah Willeford (Chad), Alicia Bragg (Sean), Danielle Spatz (Dylan); four great-grandchildren: Connor, Gwenyth, Jackson and Mackennah; brother-in-law, Richard Hawkes (Janice); sisters, Geraldine Bash and Rita Bachmann (Orvil); many dearly loved nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday, Nov 25, from 4pm to 6pm at the West Center Chapel with VIGIL SERVICE at 6pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Monday, November 26 at 10:30AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Private Interment. Memorials are suggested to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Christian Urban Education Services (CUES) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or to a charity of one’s choice.
