Thomas “Tom” H. Dunham
December 26, 1939 – January 11, 2024
Tom was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 26, 1939, to Dean and Margaret Dunham and died at age 84 on Thursday, January 11, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Margaret Dunham, and his brothers-in-law, Jim Putman, John White and Gene, Denny and Harry Vollmer. He was known as “Brother” to Dean Dunham, Sally Dunham and Sue Putman; “Husband” to Connie Dunham; “Dad” to Todd (Amy), Chris (Tracy) and Mary Beth Dunham (Jay Kvidera); and “Papa” to Erica (Josh Enholm), Drew (Jaelynn), Henry, Hillary and Caitlyn Dunham.
Tom lit up every single room he walked into, never failing to either find a few old friends or make new ones. He was a lover rather than a fighter and barely had any enemies. But he would tell you that if he were to ever cross one “They’d go down in two hits: the first when I hit them and the second when they hit the ground.” His top priority was always his family. Tom was a regular at basketball and volleyball courts, baseball and football fields, and dance recitals year-round to support his grandchildren. Tom met so many great people working at banks including the First National Bank in Wahoo, Council Bluffs Savings Bank and People’s Bank in Council Bluffs. One of Tom’s favorite ways to bond with his friends and family was working on his 1950 Ford Pickup and his 1972 Pontiac LeMans. He received many awards at car shows in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area for his show-stopping vehicles.
Tom brightened so many lives just by being himself. We will forever miss his beautiful smile, contagious laugh and his warm hugs.
Papa, you were the very best of us and we miss you infinitely. We know that your spirit will live on in us forever and we send all our love to you.

He will be missed
Tom will be sorely missed. He brightened rooms, gave of himself openly, and supported family and friends. Thank you for touching so many lives.

It was always such a pleasure to bump into Tom! What a fine family man with a sense of humor and a kind spirit……The last time I saw him, he was as cheerful and fun as ever. Someone told me that he was in big trouble, but was putting out the effort of “being Tom.” Great guy.
My prayers for his loving family, He leaves a fine example.

Goodbye my friend.
I’m saddened that those true bonds and friendship Tom and I forged over the years have come to an end. Tom has left an empty void and it can never be filled. I feel so privileged and fortunate that God has seen to it that our paths crossed. He leaves an indelible legacy and exemplified what it is to be a true friend, a father, a husband and a Steward of God. I will miss him.
