Timothy L. “Tim” Slattery Jr., age 68, passed away on June 2, 2022, in Vero Beach, Florida where he had moved to full-time with his wife Dorothy earlier in 2021. Tim was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and attended college at Colorado State University where he met his wife of 45 years, Dorothy Winthrop Henry. Throughout their marriage, their shared Catholic faith and interest in building community inspired them to cultivate and participate in many faith-based initiatives across Omaha.
Tim was a retired Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor at Merrill Lynch where he formed a partnership with his brother Daniel Slattery and Stephen Hruby proceeded by the foundation laid by his father, Timothy Sr. Prior to his role at Merrill, Tim was an industrial engineer at Rocky Flats Plant near Denver, Colorado.
In addition to his work, Tim was extremely involved in various faith-based events and activities. For many years, he participated in two rosary groups, and held perpetual adoration hours with Dorothy at their parish St. Wenceslaus every Saturday from 9 PM – midnight. He brought visionaries and speakers from around the world to Omaha to speak including Carver Alan Ames and Matthew Kelly. Tim also helped influence the Life Teen chapter of Omaha to coordinate the first-ever trip to the Steubenville Youth Conference of the Rockies. And most notably, Tim was a co-founder of the Catholic radio station KVSS – Spirit 102.7 FM.
Tim was also known for his involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) – a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. He regularly volunteered his time at Siena Francis House and Valley Hope to spread the AA message and worked with newcomers in the program. Most of Tim’s work was accomplished at local men’s meetings in the Omaha area and he sponsored many people on their path of sobriety.
Tim preferred solo activities over large and small gatherings. He spent his free time enjoying the outdoors by fishing, hiking, and camping. He also enjoyed working on cars, playing guitar, and advising his children on various home projects.
Tim was greatly devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Timothy Slattery, Sr. and Thelma “Teddi” Slattery; his mother-in-law, Susan Henry Etter; his brother, Sean Michael; brother-in-law, John Bendon; brother-in-law, George Henry, Sr. Tim is survived by his wife Dorothy of Vero Beach; siblings: Dan (Debbie) of Omaha, Dave (Lisa) of Scottsdale, Sharon of Scottsdale, and Marion Bendon (John, deceased) of Omaha. He is also survived by children: Susan (Jesse Jodrey) of Chicago, Claire (Kyle Dehn) of Tempe, and Sean (Katelyn Grund) of Omaha.
