Velma M. Smith, 104, of council bluffs, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016. She was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa July 22, 1912. Velma was employed at Northwest Bell Telephone Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1974 and belonged to the Telephone Pioneers. She was preceded in death by husband Paul Frye, parents Clarence and Pearl (Johnston) Miller, brother Ralph Miller, sisters lone Gaver and Irene Taylor, son Duane P. Frye and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Frye. Survivors include grandchildren Terri Frye, Susan (Mike) Pearson, Michael (Debbie) Frye, Lisa Frye, great grandchildren Michel and Scott Pearson, Matt and Mark Frye, nieces and nephews. Many thanks, posthumously, to a special niece Barbara Shearer and her husband Charles (Dec.) of Council Bluffs, Iowa and her surviving family for the many things to they for her over the years. It was Velmas wish there be no viewing or visitation. Graveside service will be held October 15 at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Missouri Valley, Iowa. Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America, Little Sioux, Iowa.
