August 14, 1943 – September 13, 2023

Verna Mae Beckers, 80, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on September 13, 2023, after a short and aggressive battle with ALS.

Verna was born on August 14, 1943, to Veronica and Joseph McBurney in Chicago, Illinois.

Verna met Fred Beckers at Navy Pier in downtown Chicago, Illinois, while cruising the streets with her sister,  Renee. Verna and Fred married in 1964, and went on to have two children, Michael and Michelle, after which the family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. In 1995, Verna and Fred moved to Kansas City, Missouri, before moving back to Omaha in 2023.

Verna enjoyed visiting wineries, dancing, and attending live music performances. Verna especially enjoyed jazz by Luigi, Inc., and even hosted the band at backyard parties at her Omaha home. She was very active and loved to go to the YMCA to workout where she established many close friends there as well.

Verna loved to decorate her home for various holidays, especially Christmas. She loved her Hallmark ornaments, which were hung on a real tree each year. Her Kansas City house once won a neighborhood association holiday decoration contest.

Verna retired in 2023 from the Kansas City law firm, Copilevitz, Lam and Raney, where she made many friends.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Veronica, and Joseph McBurney; brother, Clyde Lawrence. She was a very special lady to all of us at Copilevitz, Lam & Raney. It’s not the same without her smiling face greeting us in the morning. I will keep her in my heart and cherish her memory. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
