Vince Courtney

September 17, 1933- November 12, 2023

Vincent Thomas Courtney was born on September 17, 1933, the son of Harry and Stella (Carolan) Courtney, at their home near Bluffton, IA. At the age of 65 it was discovered the date of his birth was mis-recorded so his birthday legally became September 18, when he was 65 years old. Vince attended Cresco High School in Cresco, Iowa. He was united in marriage with Dolores (Peter) Courtney on November 28, 1953, in Cresco, Iowa, and to this union six children were born: Debra, Diane, Darla, Donna, Craig and Christopher. Vince held a variety of jobs in his early adult years and then started working at the Cresco Cleaners in the 1950’s. This began his life-long career in the dry cleaning industry, which took the family from Cresco, to Rochester, MN, and then to Omaha, NE. Vince successfully managed the large operation for many years. Then in 1984 at the age of 50 he opened his own dry cleaning business. He proved his proficiency for business once again with Camelot Cleaners. Dolores and much of the family worked at the cleaners over the years. It is now owned and operated by his sons, Craig and Chris. Vince was hard driven and worked long hours to build his business and he was extremely proud of it. Besides work, he enjoyed boating on the river. He and Dolores bought a house on Lake of the Ozarks and he loved spending time there with friends and family. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting and went on several Canadian fishing trips with his sons and good friends. Later he enjoyed trips to Scottsdale to play golf.

Vince is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolores; six children: Debbie (Gary) Noordam, Diane Ward, Darla (Rick) Irish, Donna Courtney, Craig (Julie) Courtney, and Christopher (Nicole) Courtney, all of Omaha, NE; twelve grandchildren: Jason McFayden, Dustin Ward, Lidsey (Harold) Larsen, Chad (Charity) and Ryan Irish, Tim (Kari) Courtney, Erica, Bridget and Luke Courtney, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Benjamin Courtney; seven great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Charlotte Larsen, Caden, Camri and Collins Irish; Kylie and Noah Courtney; sister, Louise Nichols of Papillion, NE; brother, Louis (Pat) Courtney of Bluffton, IA; brother-in-law, William Daley of Cresco, IA; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Andresen of Cresco, IA, Janice Mecklenberg of Apple Valley, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
