Virgil F. “Fritz” Holst, age 84, passed away on September 19, 2022.
Virgil F. “Fritz” Holst Jr., age 84, passed away on September 19, 2022 from complications from a fall last winter. Even though a failing body took him away from this world, his kind, loving heart left a beacon of light for all those who knew him.
Fritz was born in Council Bluffs, IA on March 25, 1938 to the late Virgil and Ethel Holst. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol; sister, Deanna Klahn; son, Michael Holst (Martina); daughter, Penney; stepdaughter, Mandy Olderog; stepson, John Sadlemyer (Lindsay); grandchildren: Maddie, Henry, Isla, Violet, Willow, Alyssa, Dalton, Mikell, Amanda, Franki, and Kimber; several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie in 2002; sister, Linda Rickhoff; brother-in-law, Terrell Klahn.
Fritz spent most of his life in Treynor, IA, graduating from Treynor High School. He attended one year at Iowa State and was in the National Guard. He farmed in his early days followed by careers at Hawkey Steel & John Day, and after relocating to AZ worked at Sears.
Fritz was a true Iowan and was passionate about all things Hawkeyes. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, all sports, and gardening.
SERVICES: Sunday, October 9th at 2pm., at Zion Congregational Church in Treynor, Iowa; Interment: Zion Congregational Church Cemetery. Memorials will be directed by the family.
