Virginia J. Holoubek

HOLOUBEK, Virginia J. Jun 18, 1949 – Apr 13, 2014 A daughter, sister, cousin, and loving aunt, Virginia “Virgie” Holoubek, 64, passed away at Bergan Mercy Hospital from complications of cancer surgery. Virginia was born on June 18, 1949, in Columbus, Nebraska to Richard and Lucille Holoubek of rural Clarkson, Nebraska. She attended rural District #34 school, Bishop Neumann Catholic School in Clarkson and graduated from Clarkson High School in 1967. She attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. There, she began a career in retail merchandising followed by a lifetime career in the travel industry and corporate relocation. Her employment path allowed her to live in several cities, including Lincoln, Nebraska, Dallas, Texas, Kansas City, Missouri, and for the last 30 years, Omaha, Nebraska. Her love of travel afforded her the opportunity to visit almost every state as well as England, Australia, Rio de Janeiro, Costa Rica and Tortola, British Virgin Islands. An avid gardener, Virginia could be found on most any warm, sunny day on her knees digging in the dirt. She collected plants and flowers and loved to take you on a walk through her yard to show what she had done most recently. A true Husker fan, Virginia was sure to wear red on Husker game day and never missed a game on TV or radio. Friends were very important to Virginia. She loved to throw parties and surround herself with friends, sharing laughs and making memories. Never having children, Virginia loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She spoke “to” them and “of” them every chance she could and loved it when they called, visited and Skyped. Known to them as “Aunt Gigi”, she was the kind of aunt everyone wishes they had. Virginia is survived by four siblings: Vicki (Randy) Brabec of Clarkson, Nebraska, Roxanne (Brad) Anderson of Omaha, Verne (Terri) Holoubek of Hartford, Wisconsin, and Rollie (DyAnne) Holoubek of Adel, Iowa. Special to her heart were her eleven nieces and nephews: Courtney (John) Goldbach, Todd Holoubek, Sara (Claudio Mascarenhas) Holoubek, Brian (Natalie) Holoubek, Benjamin Brabec, Brady (Anne) Brabec, Elizabeth (Joey Harrington) Holoubek, Simon Holoubek, Caroline Anderson, Scott Anderson, and Jillian Anderson. Grandnieces and grandnephews include: Hannah Goldbach, Collin Goldbach, Sam Goldbach, Walker Holoubek, Scarlet Holoubek, and Theo Mascarenhas. She is also survived by Uncle Bill Holoubek, Aunt Wilma Kalisek, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Lucille Holoubek; grandparents, Karel and Frances Jedlicka and William and Frances Holoubek; many aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 15th, from 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel.
