Virginia L. “Ginny” Toft

Virginia L. “Ginny” Toft
May 23, 1937 – March 13, 2020

“Ginny” was born in Harrison, South Dakota to George and Ella (Larson) Dykstra.  Early in her life, the family moved to Mitchell, South Dakota where she graduated from Mitchell High School and Methodist School of Nursing.  True to the nurses’ motto of service to others, she spent her entire life tending to the needs of others.  After marriage in 1958, she worked as an RN in hospitals and medical offices.  Her young family moved to Nebraska in 1964, residing in Ralston.  There she served as a school nurse while her family was growing and later worked at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church (Ralston) where she enjoyed being involved with her fellow church members in many eldercare activities.  Most of all, she enjoyed being a homemaker and caregiver to her children and grandchildren.  Ginny was always ready to provide help with whatever need that might occur or emergency that might arise.  In retirement years she enjoyed cruises, foreign travel, and warm winter retreats.  She will be remembered by all as the gentle one always willing to dispense friendship, kindness, and love to all she met, and as a most gracious hostess providing a warm and welcoming reception.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim; daughters, Janet Roberts and Karen (Brian) Curtis; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Teshack.

MEMORIAL SERVICE with Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard: Friday, July 9th at 1:00pm at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston.  A scholarship in Nursing has been established to benefit Dakota Wesleyan University nursing students.
