Walter C. Horner

Walter C. Horner

June 15, 1934 – May 20, 2021

Walter Carl Horner passed away on May 20, 2021 at the age of 86.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; sons, Robert, Richard (Susan); daughter, Joanna McGarvey (Carey); six grandchildren; sister, Charlene File.  Walter was a devoted husband, loving father, successful businessman, and prolific volunteer.  Anyone who knew him would agree that he lived a full life until the end and made many friends along the way.

He was born in Wymore, Nebraska and grew up in Omaha, Nebraska.  After serving in the U.S. Navy, he returned home to Omaha where he married, graduated from Omaha University, and began his business career.  Along the way he volunteered for many organizations including the Boy Scouts and the Ralston Community Theater.  His biggest passion, however, was Rotary International to which he devoted over 37 years.  He served in many positions including President of Suburban Rotary and District Governor.  Walt was recently inducted into the Suburban Rotary Hall of Fame for his involvement and many contributions over the years.

Walt was an avid golfer, travelled extensively, and was especially fond of cruises.  Although his cryptic sense of humor wasn’t necessarily mainstream (or easy to understand), all who knew him appreciated his kind and friendly personality.

VISITATION AND RECEPTION observing CDC guidelines: Saturday, May 29th from 1pm to 3 pm at the West Center Chapel.  CELEBRATION OF LIFE MEMORIAL SERVICE: Tuesday, June 15th at 1pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5015 S. 80th Street, Ralston, NE.  Family and friends are welcome to come and share stories and memories of Walt.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in his name to either Suburban Rotary Charitable Fund or Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston.
