Wanda Vanita Tuxhorn was born in Smith Center, KS on October 3, 1924. She was the oldest of three children, Eldon, her brother, and Glenda, her sister. Wanda went to school in Downs, KS, and she graduated high school with top honors in 1942. Wanda always valued education.

After high school, Wanda went to Denver to find work. She met Myron on a bus when she was coming back to Kansas to visit her folks. They were married in 1945.

Wanda believed in the importance of her faith. In 1965, she and Myron became members of Dundee Presbyterian Church because it had good youth programs. They joined the Mariners and served dinners at UNO to raise money for various programs within the church like Dundee Camp. They also did some square dancing. Later, they took their grandchildren every Wednesday to Logos. They set tables, ate, and helped do the dishes. Wanda sang in the choir and belonged to the Women’s Association.

For ten years, Wanda volunteered as a teacher aide in her daughter Trudy’s classroom. She read books to the students and worked individually with them on flashcards in reading and arithmetic. She enjoyed meeting and working with all the children in those classes.

On the holidays, Wanda was famous for creating special treat bags for each one of her grandchildren, on Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and Easter. In each bag, there were special items just for that child.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister and her husband, Myron in 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl, Denise, and Trudy, her grandchildren: Leah, (Chris); Lindsey, (Matt); Travis, (Mandy); Jessica, (Jake); Alicia, Austin, (Emily); and Alex, and by her seven great- grandchildren.
