Wayne Gerald Mathewson

Wayne Gerald Mathewson

August 12, 1942 – May 25, 2024

Wayne Mathewson was married for almost 27 years to his loving wife, Barbara. He was a father to three, O.J., Scott, and Lori, and stepfather to three, Beth, Terri, and Becky. He loved dogs and was often found napping with one or more.

Wayne’s love for NASCAR was a defining part of his life, bringing excitement and camaraderie as he attended the races with his longtime friend, Jim. Whether cheering from the stands or in front of the television, the thrill of the track was something he shared with those closest to him.

Beyond the racetrack, Wayne loved traveling. His travels often led him to Las Vegas and Laughlin. Whether it was trying his luck at the casinos or simply trying new buffets or restaurants, Wayne embraced each moment spent with his family and friends.

Though Wayne Mathewson may have passed on, he will be remembered by his family and friends as a passionate NASCAR enthusiast, and a spirited traveler who embraced life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and Ruth Mathewson.

Wayne is survived by wife, Barbara Mathewson; children: Bryan Mathewson (Mariah), Scott Mathewson (Kelli), and Lori Stokes (Wade);  grandchildren: Brock, Allie Webb (Chase); Caden, Jordan, McKenna, Kyler and Ty;  great- grandchildren, Beckett and Brooks; stepchildren: Elizabeth Grimmond (Paul), Theresa Larsen, and Rebecca Sharp (Dean);  stepgrandchildren: Jessica, John, Sarah, Sophia, Nicholas, Alexandria, and Dominic.

VISITATION: Saturday, June 1st, from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a PRAYER SERVICE at 6 p.m., at West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Rd.

Barb, Wayne lived his life to the fullest (even during these past few trying years). We’ll miss our trips to the casino but will cherish the memories of our Vegas trips especially that huge T-bone steak on Fremont Street. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May Wayne’s soul rest in peace. Love you!
