KRONBERG, Wendell A. Dec 22, 1930 Sep 6, 2013 Former Mayor of Ralston, Nebraska. Preceded in death by parents, Al and Carrie Kronberg; son, Hal in 1980; brother, Don; sister, Francis Carter. Survived by wife, Joyce Kronberg; son, Dr. Kent Kronberg (Kim); daughter, Jann Glesmann (Dick); 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Haire (Chris), Erin Teeter, Brian Kronberg (Stephanie), Ashley Glesmann, and Jordan Glesmann; 3 great-grandchildren: Ella Teeter, Caden and Brianna Haire; sister-in-law, Betty Kronberg; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wesley and Ruby Turtscher; many nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Washington County, Nebraska, Mr. Kronberg grew up on a farm in Douglas County. After graduating from Omahas Benson High School in 1948, he attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois while in the service and later graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Mr. Kronberg served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. For many years, from 1955 until his retirement in 1995, Mr. Kronberg was associated with the State Farm Insurance Companies as an agent and agency manager. He was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church. His community activities included: Ralston Planning Commission; Ralston City Council; Mayor of Ralston; Rescue Captain for Ralston Volunteer Fire Dept.; Finance Officer and First Vice Commander, Ralston American Legion Post 373; Board of Directors, Omaha/Council Bluffs Metropolitan Planning Agency; President, Missouri Valley Rescue Association; President, Messiah Lutheran Church Council; Chairman, United Way Fund Drive; President, Ralston Area Baseball Association; President, Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce; President, Ralston Optimist Club; Chairman, Messiah Lutheran Church Building Committee; Board of Directors, Private Industry Council; Chairman, Board of Trustees of Midlands Community Hospital; President, Lakeview Golf Course; Chairman of the Board, Sherman County Bank; Board member, The Ralston Bank; legislative lobbyist for Paralyzed Veterans of Nebraska and Ralston Chamber of Commerce; board member, Ralston Community Theatre; District Representative for Congressman John Y. McCollister, 2nd District Nebraska; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite; board member, Merrymakers Association; board member, Strategic Air Command Museum; Co-Commander, 7th Airborne Command and Control Squadron; Co-Commander, 338th Combat Training Squadron, Offutt Air Force Base; Offutt AFB Advisory Council; Board of Directors, Offutt AFB annual picnic; Board of Directors, WINGS Offutt AFB Air Show; Board of Directors, Sherman/Howard County Bank, Board of Directors, American National Bank; 1st Vice Commander, Ralston American Legion Post 373. Mr. Kronberg’s lifetime of service earned him the following honors: Chamber of Commerce Award of Achievement; Nebraska Parks and Recreation Association Volunteer Service Award; Golden Glove Award, Ralston Baseball Association; Legislative Endeavor Award, Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce; Citizen of the Year, Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce; Benson High School Hall of Fame; Midlands Community Hospital Charity Ball Honoree; Civic Leader of the Year; American Legion Achievement Honor. VISITATION begins Saturday, September 14th at 10am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5015 So. 80 St. in Ralston, followed by SERVICES at 11am at the church; military rites by Ralston American Legion Post 373. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hal Kronberg Memorial Scholarship Fund, Lakeside Village Scholarship Fund, or Messiah Lutheran Church.
