William A. Halpenny

HALPENNY, William A. “Bill,” Jul 2, 1930 – Aug 5, 2010. Omaha, NE – Born in Omaha, Bill attended St. Cecilia Cathedral schools, where he formed lifelong friendships. Bill served in the U.S. Marines in Korea before graduating from Creighton University. Awarded a Presidential Unit Citation and Purple Heart, he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He worked for Mutual of Omaha and the U.S. Postal Service. Avid handyman and garage saler; road trip, boating, football, and investment enthusiast. Always ready to share a joke, Bill most enjoyed time with friends and family. Survived by dear wife of 53 years, Romona; children Mary Halpenny-Killip (Christopher), Cambridge, MA; Thomas, Omaha; James, Denver; Barbara, Somerville, MA; grandson Joshua Halpenny-Nguyen, New York; sisters- and brother-in-law, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Clarence A. and Helen M. (Gentleman) Halpenny and much loved older brothers Robert, John and Richard. We will miss him greatly. VISITATION begins Monday, 4pm, Aug 9th followed by WAKE SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. MASS OF RESURRECTION Tuesday, 10am, Aug 10th at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery with military rites by Millard American Legion Post 374 & VFW Post 8334. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: Millard Good Samaritan Nursing Center, American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans, or St. Robert Bellarmine Parish.
