William B. Preston
March 28, 1942 – April 16, 2025
Bill Preston was born on March 28, 1942, in Whitestone, NY, to Ann and William Preston. He and his sister, Nancy, shared an adventurous childhood filled with trips to their Long Island summer home, spending time with grandparents and cousins. They spent carefree days exploring the island while their parents worked in the city. It was on Long Island that Bill developed his lifelong love of the water, sunshine, good food, and Sand Mountain.
Bill graduated from Bayside High School in 1959 and went on to earn his degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1963. He continued his studies in engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 1965. Shortly after, he served as an officer in the Vietnam War, where he met a lifelong friend who eventually encouraged his move to Omaha, Nebraska, to begin his engineering career at HDR.
Omaha is also where Bill met the love of his life, Linda (McDonald) Preston. They were married on November 29, 1975. In 1978, Bill and Linda purchased their first apartment complex—marking the beginning of his second career in real estate investments. In 1992, Bill became one of the founding members of Midwest First Financial, which he led until his retirement in 2022.
Bill is survived by his son, Mike (Lisa); grandchildren, William, Thomas, and Vada Preston; sister, Nancy (Bill) Marshall; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Roger) Davidson and Mary (Rich) Lomax; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and parents.

1 Condolence
Michael, my sincere sympathy to you and yours. I have fond memories of fun times with your Mom and Dad in our early years with wonderful ski trips and dinner gatherings in Omaha. We had a group of special friends and always had a lot of laughs. When I think back of visiting at your house, I’m reminded . of the train you had! I’m sure your many memories will help hold your Dad close. May he RIP. Warmly, Sue and Dave Danielson.
