William “Bill” Albert Christian

William “Bill” Albert Christian was born on November 25, 1958, in Rushville, Indiana, and graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School in 1977.  In his high school years, he participated in football and wrestling. After high school, Bill attended Indiana State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1981. He then graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Master of Science degree in December of 1984. Bill was a member of the United States Air Force from February, 1983 to February, 1987 and received an honorable discharge and a degree in computer science.

Bill worked at Metropolitan Area Planning Agency in Omaha, Nebraska, from 1987 to August 2009, when he moved to Wichita, Kansas, to work at Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning. From January of 2014 until the time of his death on October 17, 2017, Bill was employed at Fargo Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments. At the time of his death, he was the Executive Director of MetroCog.

Bill received a skydiving certificate on May 25, 1985. In 2009, as he left MAPA, Bill received a Metropolitan Motorist Assist Award, and was named an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. While in Wichita, a flag was retired in his honor as a veteran by the Boy Scouts of America.

Bill met the love of his life, Judy, on a blind date in November, 2005, which resulted in marriage in May of 2007. As a couple, Bill and Judy enjoyed attending hockey, basketball, and football games, plays, and watching NASCAR  and INDY races. They enjoyed road trips to explore local areas. As long as they were together, they enjoyed much laughter and love.

Bill is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Allysia Hughes (Keegan) and Myriah Christian (fiancé, Kevin Campbell); grandsons: Asheron, Kyrian, and Arikos Hughes; mother, Jerry Helfer; sister, Sandra Handley (Mike); brother, Dan Helfer (Denise); sister-in-law, Connie Wolfe and friend, Dale Vose; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin Helfer; grandparents; aunts; uncles; and a brother-in-law, Del Wolfe.

Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 25th from 5pm to 8pm at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Road.  SERVICES Thursday, October 26th at 2pm at the West Center Chapel, with military rites by American Legion Post #1.  Private Interment.

    Judy, MaryAnn and I wish we could be there with you during this time of grief. I will always cherish Bill and my child memories.     Bill was a wonderful person with a unique personality. I enjoyed my time working with Bill and learned a great deal from him as well. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s family. May God Bless you and comfort you.
