William Edward Seidler, Sr.

William Edward Seidler, Sr.

July 23, 1930 – July 16, 2022

Born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Creighton Prep in 1948 where he developed lifelong friendships. In 1952, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana where he also met his wife of 70 years, Anne-Marie Matt. After serving in the Korean War, he returned home, attended, and graduated from Creighton Law School in 1957. For over 50 years, he practiced law in Omaha, eventually establishing his own firm, Seidler & Seidler PC, joined by his son William Seidler, Junior. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather always caring and providing for his family. He was a member of Downtown Rotary Club of Omaha for over 30 years. A lifelong Catholic, he was a parishioner at Christ The King Church for over 48 years. His strong faith and Jesuit education formed the core and essence of who he was as a person and how he lived his life.

After his family, his next greatest love were his three standard poodles: Irene, Sarah, and Fred. He adored caring for them and taking them for beautiful nature walks. In addition, he and the dogs participated in Therapy Dogs, visiting patients in hospitals and nursing homes bringing the patients the joy and comfort of a visit from a furry friend.

As an avid golfer, he never hesitated to head to the course on his own and always easily found others to join him for a round thanks to his affable nature. He proudly scored a Hole In One; he has a plaque to prove it!

He very much enjoyed and supported many of the wonderful community organizations in Omaha. During the summers, he loved taking his grandsons to visit many of them including the Henry Doorly Zoo, Children’s Museum, Lauritzen Gardens, Bancroft Street Market, Arbor Lodge, Rose Theatre, SAC, Western Heritage Museum, Joslyn Art Museum, and Fontenelle Forest to name a few.

To all who met and knew him, he always had a warm and friendly greeting, and was genuinely happy to see them. He truly taught us what it meant to be a “Perfect Gentleman”. We love you!!

Survived by wife of 70 years, Anne-Marie M. Seidler; children, William E. Seidler Jr., Rosemary A. Nicoll (Robert), Susan Seidler Feidelberg (Geoffrey), Maryanne Seidler, Jennifer J. Seidler Gilheany (Thomas), two grandchildren; John Alexander S. Feidelberg and Edward S. Feidelberg. Preceded in death by mother Blanche Moran Seidler, father John Seidler, sister, Beatrice Seidler and brother John P. Seidler.

VISITATION: Tuesday, July 26th from 6pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Wednesday, July 27th at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 S. 86th St.  Family Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery in Council Bluffs with military honors.

    Dear Jen and family,
My deepest sympathies on the passing of your Dad. Having had the privilege of being your friend for many years, I can see qualities you embody which carry on your Dad’s legacy: intellectual rigor and curiosity, love of family and friends, deep faith, commitment to giving back in your community. With prayers that the happy memories, shared experiences and lives your Dad touched will unite and comfort your family during these difficult days. With love, Kimberly & Doug
