Jim was a husband, father, uncle, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and friend to many. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 20, 1931, to his parents William and Agnes Schneiderwind. Growing up in Omaha, Jim attended Immaculate Conception grade school and Creighton Preparatory High School. As a child he loved to play baseball and later coached CYO.
Jim served his country from 1951 to 1953 as an Army Private, later promoted to Sergeant and was honorably discharged after being deployed during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
Jim met Dolores in 1951 at an ICC Summer dance, and they were in a loving marriage for 67 years and had five children.
He was an Electrician for 38 years and a member of IBEW Local 22, recently receiving his 65-year pin. He held leadership positions in the Union and served on the board of the credit union.
Jim enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, bowling and baseball. He was also an avid Husker football and volleyball fan. Much to his wife’s delight, he loved to cook, especially once he retired. Jim also continued the Sak family tradition of making Polish Sausage for family events and holidays. He was a member of the German American Club where he volunteered in several administrative roles, as well as a long-time member of the German American Barenbrut.
Jim and Dee maintained a family cabin for 23 years with the Ponec family at Pleasure Lakes where they enjoyed hosting family and friends and all loved swimming, fishing, minibikes, horseshoes, beach times and water skiing.
He was a chauffeur, coach, champion of his kids’ activities, which included hockey, swimming, ice skating, dance lessons, t-ball, and cheer leading, driving the ski boat and teaching many kids to water ski.
As a devout Catholic, he was a member of Holy Cross Catholic parish for 53 years. He was an extraordinary Eucharistic Minister for 20 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a founder of the program to have retired parishioners volunteer as Alter servers for funeral masses.
