Wright G. Rumsey
Born: September 17, 1928 in LaFeria, Texas
Died: February 23, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraska
Wright “Jerry” Rumsey grew up in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. He had his own hobby shop in his parents attic at age 14. He built model airplanes and sold kits and supplies and also completed locally in flying contests. He attended college at Clarion College and was also a police officer while attending classes. He graduated and got a job as a draftsman at MRC Bearing in Jamestown, New York. He met his wife, Gloria, on a blind date and they were married in Brockway, Pennsylvania, on June 9, 1951, and shortly after they moved to Boulder, Colorado. Jerry and Gloria had three sons: Mark, Scott and Tim. Jerry soon got a job at Sundstrand Corp in the Denver metro area as a draftsman. After the birth of their first son, Mark, they moved to Westminster, Colorado, so Jerry could be closer to his job. Jerry then got transferred to Rockford, Illinois. After a few years he and the family moved to Littleton, Colorado, where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Martin Marietta. He worked on projects for the early space shuttle programs and the Viking lander that went Mars. As funding for the space program dwindled, he decided to go back to Sundstrand in Ames, Iowa, as a Design Engineer until he retired. Soon the decision was made to move to Lakeland, Florida. After 11 years, Mark decided that it was time to move his parents closer and he helped them move to Omaha in 2006. Gloria soon ended up in dementia care at Douglas County Health Center until she passed on January 9, 2015. Not long after, Jerry was moved to long term care at the same facility until he passed on February 23, 2024. On or about June 8th of 2024, they will be buried at a graveside service in the same town and church where they got married in Brockway, Pennsylvania.
