Zachary James McKenzie
Born: March 8, 1995 — Omaha, Nebraska
Entered into Rest: June 30, 2025, Age: 30 years
Zachary was born on March 8, 1995, to Kevin and Amy McKenzie in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up surrounded by love. Zachary attended St. Thomas More Elementary School and Westside High School. From a young age, he exhibited a strong work ethic, a zest for life, and the best sense of humor—qualities that carried him through his journey.
Professionally, Zachary dedicated himself to his work as an electrician. His commitment and drive were truly unmatched. He was always the hardest worker, and those in his life knew they could count on him. Everyone who knew him recognized his dedication and pride in his craft. Zach was incredibly smart and wise beyond his years. He carried a positive spirit, lighting up any room he walked into.
Zachary’s greatest joy was his beautiful dog, Luna. She was his whole world. Together, they traveled the country, creating countless memories. Their adventures took them to Utah, Colorado, and everywhere in between. He raised the most well-mannered, gentle, and joyful dog—whom he often lovingly referred to as Luna Maybelle. His spirit will live on through his sweet girl.
A lover of the outdoors, Zachary found excitement in every adventure. Whether it was fishing, skateboarding, hiking, or exploring the mountains on his snowboard, he was always living life to the fullest. From a young age, he built snow ramps in the yard to practice jumps and could often be found learning new skateboard tricks at the nearest skate park with friends.
Music played a big role in Zachary’s life. He enjoyed both country and rap, often blending the two while spending time with friends. You could find him on the dance floor at Bushwackers or singing at a country concert—wherever he was, he was known for his infectious energy. His days were filled with joy, laughter, and the love of good company. Zach made friends everywhere he went and attracted such kind, genuine people into his life.
Zachary’s spirit was defined by his adventurous soul, kind heart, big dreams, incredible sense of humor, and relentless drive to succeed.
He is survived by his mother, Amy McKenzie, and his father, Kevin McKenzie, his brother, Andrew, and his sister, Lauren. He is also survived by his stepfather, Gregory Lyons; his grandparents, Jim and Theresa Schmitt, and Jim and Kathleen McKenzie; his significant other, Jessica; and his loyal dog, Luna, who was always by his side.
He leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends whose lives were touched by his warmth and humor. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

1 Condolence
My deepest sympathy and prayers for peace and comfort go out to and for Zach’s family and friends, including Jessica. I barely had the chance to meet him in person but was looking forward to getting to know him more if he moved to my place in Ankeny. I am truly sorry for your loss.
