Zita A. (Turk) Noonen

February 1, 1931 – December 22, 2023

Zita Antoinette Turk Noonen was born on a farm in St. Libory, Nebraska, on February 1, 1931, to Ignatz and Elsie Mamot Turk. She attended St. Libory Catholic grade school until the 5th grade. The family then moved to Grand Island, where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school for 5th and 6th grade. She did not like it. She went back to St. Libory and lived with her Uncle Frank and Aunt Millie Miller, and her cousin, Leola, who was the same age. Zita graduated from Grand Island High School in 1948. During high school, she worked as an usherette at The Capitol Theater and as a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. She moved to Omaha, NE, in 1949 and enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) class at St. Joseph Hospital on 10th and Martha St. Her nurse’s license number was 300.

She met the love of her life, James P. Noonen, at the Music Box. They were married on December 2, 1950. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda (Steve) Mach and Kathryn (Robert) Giles.

She worked for 10 years as a float nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and then at the Creighton University Outpatient Surgery Clinic for over 25 years. Then she worked for Dr. Ira Priluck in the Eye Department.

Jim and Zita loved to travel and took many bus tours, many cruises, and put a lot of miles on their motor home.

They have two wonderful sons-in-law, Steve Mach and Robert Giles; four grandchildren: Amanda (Mach) and John Ackerman, Scott and Mandy Giles, Kelli (Giles) and Ryan Stawniak, and Marla (Mach) and Brad Stuva; six great-grandchildren, Ike Ackerman, Hunter and Emerson Giles, Colton, Kensley and Corrigan Stuva; and brother, Norbert Turk.

Zita was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Joey Mach.

Jim and Zita were married for 73 years. What a great life and a beautiful family.

Love You All.
