STORY, Carroll J., Apr 29, 1920 Mar 5, 2011. Born in Holdrege, NE; died in Omaha, NE. Longtime resident of Lincoln, NE. Preceded in death by parents, Bert and Marie Story. Survived by wife of 68 years, Leeola Story; son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Kristine Story of Omaha; grandsons: Sean Story and wife Joana of Lisbon, Portugal, David Story and wife Martha of Cooper Landing, AK; step-grandson, Jeff Norvell of Omaha; step-granddaughter, Kim Norvell of St. Joseph, MO. Carroll was a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. A veteran of WWII, he received a battlefield commission to 2nd Lt. and was awarded the Bronze Star. Carroll retired after 34 years with the Nebraska Department of Roads. He was the first full-time Secretary of the Board of Public Roads, Classification and Standards; Advisor to the Board of Examiners of County Highway and City Street Superintendents; and a 25-year member of the American Association of State Highway Officials. After retirement he served 5 years as an Assistant Sergeant at Arms for the Nebraska Legislature. Carroll was a 70-year member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE, and the last surviving member of the original church building committee.
