Christine Turnbull Jensen, age 54, died Friday, January 17, 2025, after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Christine was born in Ogden, Utah, on September 11, 1970, to John W. Jensen, Jr. and Jeanne Paul. She was predeceased by her father, John Jr., and brother, John Jensen III (Tres).
Christine is survived by her mother, Jeanne Shimokawa; stepfather, Edward Shimokawa; daughter, Hannah Pred; sisters, Christine Shimokawa (Tylee), Deborah Hollenbeck (Jeffrey); brother, David Shimokawa (Lisa), and Cara Nielsen (Gregory); grandmother, Christine Buehler; many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Christine was a lifelong learner and sought further education and growth whenever and wherever she could find it. She approached the world with insatiable curiosity, always seeking to understand, explore and grow. Prior to her advancing illness, she obtained a master’s degree, something she wanted to complete before she turned 50, and held a leadership position at PayPal. She was an adventurous traveler; exploring the world with wonder and savoring every experience and immersing herself in the rich cultures and cuisines of all the places she visited. Whether it was dining at a bustling street market with her daughter, Hannah, or an elegant Michelin star restaurant, she relished the art of eating and shared her love of wonderful food with friends and family.
She lived life to the fullest never wavering in her pursuit of her dreams. Though she is no longer with us, Chris’s spirit will live on in the gardens she created, the paths she blazed, and the hearts of those who loved her. She reminded all of us that life is a gift to be cherished, and dreams are meant to be pursued with courage and joy.

Chris was such a wonderful person who always had a smile. She was exceptionally bright and a great customer advocate. Prayer to Hannah and the rest of her family. Heaven gained an angel.
Chris was a mentor and friend, who taught me so much about being a leader. For years after I worked for her at PayPal, we kept in touch as she loaned me “Ellie” and would ask how she liked downtown living. I’m so sorry for your loss, Hannah. Your mom was a force and I’m better for having known her.
Oh, Karla, this made me giggle. I always wondered where my Ellie ended up…I hope she’s enjoying downtown living and dressed to the nines.
Jeanne, I send my love. What a wonderful young woman you raised.
Pat
Your mother was truly special, Hannah. She touched so many lives with her kindness, guidance, and unwavering support. I had the distinct pleasure of working with her when Honey was acquired by PayPal in 2020.
While my words can’t ease your pain, I hope you can find solace and comfort in knowing how many lives she brightened and how deeply she was cherished. She was an incredible gem of a human being, and I have no doubt you will carry on her legacy in your life.
With my deepest, heartfelt sympathy,

I met Chris when she was my department director at PayPal. I was starting a new operations team in a new space, and Chris was always open to my ideas and relentlessly encouraging. Chris was critical to my career development, and I am forever grateful. Further, Chris was fun, cool, and kind. Thank you Chris! Family; I know you are proud of Chris, she is so missed in Omaha. Peace be with you
Chris was always the leader I wanted. She was genuinely interested in what you were working and took time to get to know you, and your desires, goals, strengths and weakneses. She offered her time even though it was precious, to lend a hand professionally, but also personally. I will always be so incredibly thankful to her for giving me a chance at my dream job. I knew she was rooting for me and I just pray her close family and loved ones find some peace through this loss. We will miss you dearly, Chris!
I had the opportunity to work with Chris at PayPal. She was such a force in terms of leadership and empathy. I got to be a close partner with her when she opened the Chandler, AZ office for PayPal. We would work hard, and also share stories of our lives, experiences, passions, and future goals. My heart in broken as the world has lost a bright presence. Hannah, my heart, thoughts, prayers, and intentions are with you and your family.

Forever in our thoughts my dear friend. Sincere condolences to Hannah, Jeanne and all her family and friends.
My condolences to Chris’ family and friends. I had opportunity to work with Chris in PayPal APAC. She is an exemplary leader many of us had looked up to, not just for her professional expertise but also caring human leadership. She will be missed. Rest in peace, Chris.
I’m so very sorry to hear about Chris. I truly loved getting to know her over the years. She was an amazing coworker, always quick to help and offer opinions. But even more importantly, she was an amazing person and friend. Over more than a decade we got to know one another and would often talk of our lives, families, and hopes and dreams. Hannah, she was so incredibly proud of you and loved you so very much. I hope you find some comfort in her loving legacy. I will miss her.
Hannah and family – I’m so very sorry to hear of Chris’ passing. What a beautiful obituary and honor to your sweet, but fierce momma. She was an incredible leader, mentor, and friend to me at PayPal. I’m indeed a better person for knowing her. She left an amazing legacy for you Hannah to carry forward. She loved you to pieces and was so proud of you. Hannah, Jeanne, and Family,
My heart is saddened to hear of Chris passing. What a lovely tribute to a beautiful person. She was an amazing leader, coach, mentor, and friend to me at PayPal and outside of it. I weep at losing her; but I also keep replaying in my mind so many wonderful memories (some that were funny, some professional, and others that reach deep in my heart as she cared so very much). May you be comforted during this time of extreme sorrow and loss to know that Chris truly made a difference in countless lives. Oh, how she will be missed!
RIP Chris
Chris was an extraordinary woman who left an indelible mark on my life. I have never met anyone more genuinely fulfilled by supporting the accomplishments of others—especially those of her daughter, Hannah. She will always be remembered.
My condolences to Hannah and Chris’ extended family. Chris was an incredible colleague and good friend. We connected over lots of shared interests and experiences and stayed in touch long after we stopped working together. She always made me smile and taught me so much. I will miss our chats and cherish the times we shared.
To Chris’s family, I am deeply saddened and share with you the emotions of both sadness and thankfulness. Chris was not just a co-worker, but a friend (and at times therapist). Chris was always a source of information and perspective – wanting the success of others more than she wanted for herself. She left a mark on all of us…and an example to follow. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
I had the pleasure to work with Chris and always found her to be thoughtful and considerate. Don’t get me wrong – she was constantly pushing us to achieve and excel. But she did it because she knew we were capable and she always brought positive energy. My condolences to Chris’ family.
Chris was a remarkable leader during my time at PayPal, leaving a lasting impact with her deep knowledge and kindness.. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with her and will always remember her warmth and guidance. My sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.
The consistent theme of so many of these condolences capture the true essence of Chris. As the two most ‘mature’ students in the EMBA program, we had a quick bond that remained until her passing. Chris will truly be missed by so many.
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I am sorry for that Chris endured in her battle with cancer. While we didn’t work closely together, I felt a deep bond with her—drawn in by her kindness, strength, courage, humility, brilliance, and fierce advocacy. She had a way of making people feel seen and valued, and I will always be grateful for the moments we shared.
I found an excuse to visit her in Omaha in 2023, sit in a workshop for 2 whole days right next to her and go out to dinner. I will deeply miss our text exchanges
Chris truly embodied what Brené Brown describes as a “strong back, soft front, and a wild heart.” Though I remember thinking a different phrase suited her even better—the words on the bracelet I sent her: “Bad*** with a big heart.”
I can only hope Chris left this world knowing just how deeply she was loved and respected. We’ve all lost an extraordinary human being, and I am so very sorry.
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Chris. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time. I had the privilege of working with Chris for many years. Her co-worker (her beloved dog) often joined our conference calls and never failed to bring a smile to our faces. My thoughts are with you, Hannah, Jeanne and your extended family as you navigate through your loss.
Chris was a bright light and an amazing human. May her courageous spirt, bright smile, and love for her family remind us all of how to live without fear and lifting up those around us. Continue to shine bright Chris!!!!
I am so sorry for your loss. I only worked with Chris for a year when I joined her organization in PayPal, but during the time I learned so much from her! She was brilliant and witty, and I am just so sorry she had to fight this illness.
My sincere condolences to Chris’ family and friends – she was just remarkable.
To Chris’s family–I’m so very sorry for your loss. Chris was an amazing person and has had a lasting and positive impact on so many people, including myself. She will be dearly missed.
I worked with Chris at PayPal for many years, and can attest to the fact that she was a wonderful mentor, leader and true friend to so many. Chris and I shared so many good times, lots of laughs and we were able to confide in each other in times of need. Chris was also extremely generous and supported causes that were near and dear to me in ways no one ever knew about. I will truly miss her snd will forever cherish the time she was in my life. She was one of the strongest women I know, she fought this long and difficult battle with so much strength and grace, I take comfort knowing she’s finally at peace and without pain. My sincere condolences and prayers to you, Hannah and all of Chris’s family and dear friends. She left a wonderful legacy for us all to remember and will be missed tremendously.
It’s hard to put into words the impact Christine had on the lives of so many, including my own. She was a beacon of kindness, strength, and wisdom—a true leader in every sense of the word. Her dedication to her work was unmatched, but it was her warmth and compassion that truly set her apart. Chris had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and supported, whether through her mentorship, her friendship, or just a simple conversation. Above all else, Chris’s greatest pride and joy was Hannah. She loved her more than anything in the world and spoke about her with such pride and deep affection. That love was evident in everything she did, and her legacy lives on through Hannah, who embodies so many of the incredible qualities Chris was known for. Chris, you will be deeply missed, but the light you brought into this world will continue to shine in the hearts of everyone you touched. Rest in peace.
Sending love, prayers and positive thoughts to the family. I am so sorry for your loss.
I am so blessed to have gotten to know Chris. I learned so much from working with her at PayPal. She was a strong and fierce leader who cared- an amazing combination.
I’ am so sorry to hear of the passing of Chris, who I knew as Chrissy in high school at Westside. From my first day of French class with her, I knew she was the kindest person. Intelligent and happiness surrounded her. We reconnected years later and I saw the beautiful mom she became. She lit up talking about Hannah. I will forever treasure the memories I have of Chris. And will continue to pray for her family, especially her beautiful Hannah, and all who love and were blessed to have known her. She truly made the world a better place. Warm regards, Shelley
I can’t digest the news that Chris is no more with us. I will always cherish the guidance and nuggets of wisdom and fun she shared with me.
