Joan passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by loving family. She was born on December 11,1936, to Fred and Elizabeth Pfeffer (Meckna). Joan was preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Jack, and Edward. She is survived by brother, Robert (Jean), sisters-in-laws, Betty and Joanie.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Eric (Roselyn); her grandchildren, Danielle (Tim) Jansen and Shane, beloved great-grandchildren, Leo and Jude; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Joan grew up with family in South Omaha, originally attending St. Stanislaus prior to graduating from St. Mary’s and South High School in 1954. She later earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees, and credits towards a Doctorate degree from UNO.
Joan worked at the Union Pacific Railroad, the Omaha Police Department (first Woman Dispatcher and 911 Operator in OPD history), and educator in Omaha Public Schools, teaching 4th and 6th grade at Indian Hill Elementary. A constant companion over the years were her Hungarian herding Puli sheep dogs, Lapper and Lapper 2.
Her love of travel took her all over the world with many memories.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00AM with VISITATION beginning at 9:00AM, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3122 South 74th Street, Omaha, 68124.
INURNMENT: Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
