Jon Jay Walker passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, just one day shy of his 64th birthday.
To know Jon was to know kindness, steadiness, and unconditional love. He was the heart of his family and a source of strength to all who were lucky enough to cross his path; a devoted husband, father, friend, and his most cherished title of all, Pops.
He was the beloved husband of MJ Walker. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Lindsey (Mitchell) Schneider, Haley (Steven) King, Mackenzie Walker, and Jackson Walker. Jon leaves behind three grandchildren, Madison, Cameron, and Maverick Schneider, who were truly the joys of his life.
Jon was born on October 8, 1961, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Roger and Joan Walker, and was raised alongside his older siblings, Dan Walker and Diane McGraw. He spent his Columbus days surrounded by a close group of friends, enjoying time at Wagner Lakes, playing basketball, and making countless Taco John’s runs that always seemed to end up at the Walker house.
In 1979, he went on to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. There, he formed a remarkable group of lifelong friends who fondly knew him by his nickname, Chet. The friendships he made during those years remained among the most meaningful of his life, filled with laughter, loyalty, and hundreds of Husker football games.
Jon was with the love of his life, MJ, for 36 years. Together they built a wonderful life in Kansas City before fulfilling their dream of lake life at Ginger Cove in Valley, Nebraska. Their home by the water became a gathering place that brought every member of the Walker family home to Nebraska. As Jon always said, “All roads lead back to Nebraska.”
His career in commercial real estate was something he was deeply proud of, a reflection of his strong work ethic, dedication, and the meaningful connections he built along the way.
Jon was the steady foundation of his family and cherished his loved ones above all else. He had a rare gift for making others feel seen and valued, whether you knew him for forty years or five minutes. We’ll miss so many things about Jon… his guidance, his sound advice in life’s hardest moments, and that unmistakable, one-in-a-million laugh that made everything feel lighter.
Jon was preceded in death by his father, Roger, and his mother, Joan, who passed away earlier this year on May 30.
