Thomas James Hix

HIX, Thomas James May 27, 1919 – May 10, 2013 Age 93. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Barbara; and sisters, Mary and Maxine. Tom was born in Charleston, Illinois, and graduated from the University of WY with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and also a graduate of the US Air Force University, Montgomery, AL, with a Master of Science in Personal Administration Management. He retired as a Major of the US Air Force Reserve. Tom was a pilot trainer during WWII, logging over 2600 hours of flight time. He worked for the Union Pacific RR, where he was instrumental in the proposals for the piggy back program and retired in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion, 40&8, Kiwanis, Toastmasters International and Square and Compass. He also enjoyed being a part-time tax consultant for American Association of Retired Persons and was a volunteer for many years for the Omaha Food Bank through Kiwanis. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Tom is survived by 2 children, son, Jeff Hix (Jane), of Omaha, and daughter, Terry Dudley (David), of Topeka, KS; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services, Thursday, May 16, 1:00 p.m., West Center Chapel. Family will receive friends, Thursday, 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m., West Center Chapel. Interment, Evergreen with Full Military Honors by Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Omaha Food Bank.
